Following their appearance in FEATS 2015, University Players, Hamburg were invited to take part in the British All Winners Festival in Hertford, which took place at the end of July.
FEATS is delighted to report that their production of Invasion by Jonas Hassen Khemeri (translated by Frank Perry) won two awards: the Sydney Fisher Trophy for Backstage, and the Amateur Theatre Trophy Adjudicators Award.

The Irish Theatre Group, Brussels, took three awards in FEATS 2016, the results of which were announced tonight. Their production of “The London Vertigo”, by Brian Friel, won first place and also the prize for the best stage presentation; while Brian Foley took the award in the same play for the best actor for his role as Count Mushroom.

• Third place: AATG with Alas, Poor Fred by James Saunders
• Best original script: Béibhinn Regli (GEDS) for Working Girl

• Stage management award: BATS, Antwerp with Three More Sleepless Nights by Caryl Churchill
• Discretionary award: Hamburg Players with Soap Opera by David Ives, for the washing machine and the stand-in role played by the director
• Best actor: Brian Foley (ITG) in The London Vertigo by Brian Friel, after Charles Macklin
• Best actress: Marion Carter (AATG) in Alas, Poor Fred by James Saunders
At FEATS 2016, Nigel Harvey will be running a special workshop which aims to examine (and encourage!) creativity in FEATS. Here’s what he has to say about it.
“FEATS has been a major part of my life since I decided to pursue a career in the performing arts. One weekend every year where I can see live theatre and meet with colleagues and friends to discuss the finer points of the theatre experience. A perfect environment to learn, engage, perform and promote this wonderful medium.
“Every year we have the FEATS forum to discuss the logistics, administration and the year-to-year organisation of the festival. We share our experiences and make decisions on how to improve FEATS on the so-called administrative and technical side. Last year we discussed the possibility of introducing a Creative Forum.
“Having been involved in the arts for over 30 years I have been made aware that the future lies in shared knowledge. The Creative Forum would be the perfect environment to discuss our experiences, productions, love of theatre, etc. A place to encourage one another, share ideas and see what we can do as a community to ensure that the future of live performances in English will flourish.
“For our first Creative Forum I would like everyone to think about performances they have seen that have impressed. What made them good? How was the staging? The interpretation? What makes this production stand out?
“I would also like to discuss what FEATS groups do to increase membership and what kind of ideas they have to share knowledge, etc., within the group.”
